The Rise of Homegrown American Energy: Building U.S. Energy Dominance
In recent years, the energy sector has seen remarkable growth, driven by renewable energy trends that have solidified renewables as a cornerstone of America’s integrated energy future. Today, the U.S. has installed enough domestic renewable energy to power nearly 72 million homes, creating 483,000 jobs for hardworking Americans in the process. Renewable energy is now the cheapest form of power, further driving its rapid adoption across the nation.
The primary driver of this adoption is solar energy, which accounted for more than 60% of new generation added to the electricity system in 2024. To date, the U.S. has installed more than 219 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity — enough to power more than 37 million households. Along with solar implementation, the utilization of energy storage is a critical component for grid reliability, energy security, and the seamless integration of more renewable energy sources. In 2023 alone, the U.S. brought online 7 GW of energy storage capacity, with a pipeline of 30+ GW in progress. This pipeline, when completed, will power 24 million homes, underscoring energy storage’s vital role in ensuring grid resilience and meeting peak energy demand with low-cost, American-made renewable power.
A Resurgence of Domestic Manufacturing
The renewable energy boom has sparked a resurgence in domestic manufacturing. Over the past two years, the renewable energy industry has announced more than 160 new manufacturing facilities or expansions across the U.S. that will create more than 100,000 jobs and tens of billions of dollars in investments.
- 70 solar and energy storage manufacturing facilities have come online thanks to American energy incentives, with another 47 under construction.
- The U.S. now boasts more than 49 GW of domestic solar module manufacturing capacity, a testament to the strength of policies supporting energy production at home.
This manufacturing revival is creating economic opportunities, reducing reliance on foreign imports, and ensuring America’s energy supply chain remains robust and resilient.
Domestic Energy: Investing in America
American energy investments are making tangible, lasting impacts on local communities. From the second half of 2022 through the first half of 2024, actual business and consumer clean energy investment totaled $493 billion, fueling local economies and delivering direct benefits:
- Renewable energy projects currently contribute nearly $3 billion each year to local communities through annual tax payments and landowner lease agreements.
- 81% of U.S. clean power capacity is located in low-income counties, bringing jobs, infrastructure, and economic growth to regions that need it most.
