Firm recognized for excellence and innovation in three categories, including two Deal of the Year nominations 

NEW YORK – Capital Dynamics, an independent global asset manager, and its Clean Energy Infrastructure (CEI) Team have been recognized by Platts Global Energy Awards with four finalist nominations. 

The CEI Team was chosen from among more than 200 nominees from over 25 countries by a panel of energy sector leaders, which includes former OPEC energy ministers, national regulators, former heads of major energy companies and leading academics and legislators. Established in 1999, the awards has been described by past entrants as “the Oscars of the energy industry”. 

The CEI Team was selected as finalist in the following categories: 

  •  Financial Deal of the Year 

    • Recognized for financing the 328 MWdc Mount Signal 3 Solar photovoltaic project, the second phase of the 800 MWac Mount Signal Solar Farm, in collaboration with 8minutenergy Renewables. Mount Signal Solar Farm is one of the largest PV projects in the world and the deal represents the largest solar project financed in 2017 by both capital commitment and project size. 

    • Recognized for the acquisition of the California Flats Solar Project, one of the largest solar acquisitions and financings of the year in terms of both capital commitment and project size, exceeding USD 1 billion in total financing. 

  • Rising Star Award – Individual 

    • Head of CEI, John Breckenridge, recognized for outstanding leadership and achievements including raising 6 funds and separate accounts worth USD 1.6 billion and growing CEI net ownership from approximately 132 MW to over 2.1 GW of total generation capacity since joining Capital Dynamics in 2014.
  • Industry Leadership Award – Power 

    • Recognized for the CEI Team’s industry leadership position as the sixth-largest owner of US solar generation capacity with 1.4 GW, per BNEF, and innovations including granting asset class access to pension investors by establishing three new renewable energy investment vehicles in 2017 with industry-leading low management fees.

Having invested in more than 1.5 GW of solar projects since last year, the Capital Dynamics Clean Energy Infrastructure Team is one of the largest specialized renewable investment managers in the world with more than USD 3.4 billion in AUM and 3.1 GW capacity in its current portfolio (all figures as of October 2017).
