Avocet Energy Storage Project Unanimously Approved by City of Carson City Council
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. and CARSON, Calif. (August 8, 2024) – Arevon Energy, Inc., a leading renewable energy developer, owner, and operator, received unanimous approval from the City of Carson’s City Council on the Avocet Energy Storage Project.
Avocet Energy Storage is a 200 megawatt/800 megawatt-hour (MWh) stand-alone battery energy storage system that will store energy during non-peak hours and discharge energy back to the grid when there is high electricity demand. It will improve grid stability and reduce the likelihood of blackouts, while maximizing the use of renewable energy sources.
“Arevon is grateful to the City of Carson’s City Council for their support and is pleased to continue to advance the development of the Avocet Energy Storage Project,” said Kevin Smith, Chief Executive Officer at Arevon. “Avocet Energy Storage will positively contribute to Carson’s Climate Action Plan and Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes’ Clean Energy Hub Initiative, and we look forward to delivering a clean energy project that will contribute economic and environmental benefits to Carson and the greater project area.”
In addition to enhancing electricity reliability in the region by utilizing American-manufactured battery technology, Avocet Energy Storage will invest $350 million in the Carson community. The project is estimated to generate more than $35 million in property tax payments over its lifespan to support city and county government programs, including the local school district. Avocet features Megapack 2 XL, Tesla’s state-of-the-art, utility-scale battery energy storage system, which is the most advanced technology available on the market today and provides superior safety and protection for both the project and the surrounding community.
The Avocet Energy Storage Project is anticipated to break ground in Q1 2025 and begin commercial operations in Q2 2026.
