Arevon’s Big Muddy Solar Project Opens Murphysboro Office, Expands Community Support
The company is committed to building strong local relationships and continuing to provide information on the project as it progresses toward construction.

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. and SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (February 22, 2025) – Arevon Energy, Inc., a leading renewable energy developer, owner, and operator, is pleased to announce the opening of a local office for its Big Muddy Solar Project, a 124 megawatt (MWdc) project in Jackson County, Illinois. The downtown Murphysboro office will be a center for the project’s community outreach and support. Wanda Phillips, local representative for Big Muddy Solar, will host regular office hours to answer questions and provide updates to members of the public on the solar facility’s development and construction.
Previously known as Campbell Solar, the project was renamed Big Muddy Solar after the river that snakes through Jackson County. The project logo includes an outline of Murphysboro’s legendary Big Muddy Monster, first reported in 1973 near the riverbanks just east of Riverside Park.
Big Muddy Solar represents a more than $190 million private investment and will create an estimated 250 jobs during the project’s construction, which is slated to start later this year. The project will disburse approximately $12 million in property tax payments over its lifetime to Jackson County, which will directly support the enhancement of schools, roads, and other infrastructure. When operational, Big Muddy Solar will generate enough electricity to annually power the equivalent of more than 14,000 average Illinois homes.
“The Big Muddy Solar team has been a collaborative partner with Jackson County. This project presents an opportunity to diversify our local economy while producing clean, sustainable energy right here in our community. I look forward to the long-term contributions that Big Muddy Solar will make to the continued growth and prosperity of Jackson County throughout the projected lifetime of their investment,” stated Jackson County Board Chairman C.J. Calandro.
Big Muddy Solar is a proud member of the Murphysboro and Carbondale Chambers of Commerce and supports organizations across Jackson County, including the Elverado Community Unit School District #196, Vergennes Fire Department, Murphysboro-Pomona-Somerset Fire Department, Jackson County Ambulance Service, SIU STEM Education Research Center, Carbondale Warming Center, and the Murphysboro Apple Festival. Big Muddy Solar is committed to supporting Jackson County and will continue to collaborate with the community through the multi-decade life of the project.
“Arevon is proud to bring competitive-wage jobs, tax revenue, and American-made energy to Jackson County,” said Jemma King, Development Manager at Arevon. “We are dedicated to being active members of the communities where we develop and operate affordable, homegrown energy projects and look forward to building on our long-term partnership with this community.”
