Arevon’s Avocet Energy Storage Project Highlighted by Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes in City of Carson’s State of the City Address
NEW YORK and SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (March 25, 2024) – Arevon Energy, Inc., a leading renewable energy developer, owner, and operator who is developing a battery energy storage facility in Carson, California, was highlighted by Carson’s Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes in her State of the City Address on March 21. The Avocet Energy Storage Project is a 200 megawatt/800 megawatt-hour stand-alone battery energy storage system (BESS) that will increase grid stability and resilience for the City of Carson and southern California. The total investment to build the facility is estimated at in excess of $350 million.
The Avocet Energy Storage project will support the City of Carson’s Climate Action Plan and the new Innovation and Clean Energy Hub Initiative. Kevin Smith, Chief Executive Officer at Arevon, along with members of his team, attended the event, and Smith contributed a video testimonial to the address.
“Arevon’s Avocet Energy Storage Project aligns with my Innovation and Clean Energy Hub Initiative and illustrates our commitment to new and innovative clean energy solutions,” said Mayor Davis-Holmes.
The Avocet Energy Storage Project will create approximately 75 union construction jobs and will generate more than $35 million in property tax payments to the City of Carson and Los Angeles County over the life of the project. The stored energy is discharged from the project during peak electricity demand periods and will power approximately 45,000 homes for up to four hours daily.
“We appreciated the opportunity to participate in this year’s State of the City Address and highlight our partnerships with the City of Carson and the Los Angeles/Orange County Building and Construction Trades Council,” said Kevin Smith, Chief Executive Officer at Arevon. “Through the Avocet project, we look forward to advancing the City of Carson’s and the nation’s clean energy goals.”
The Avocet Energy Storage Project is currently in the permitting phase. Arevon aims to break ground in Q1 2025 and begin commercial operations in Q2 2026.
